My name is Kay and I work in Finance/Operations for a local company in Pikeville. For the last 2 months, I have been searching for a vehicle via websites, newspapers, etc. However, I searched and searched and could not find anything that was both appropriate for my family plus something I wanted to drive. On Saturday, July 14th, my husband and I went out grocery shopping. I asked him to stop by the Walters Toyota lot and let me look at a Tacoma I had seen on the website. Because I work and live here in this area, I wanted to buy local. But at the same time, I wanted a quality vehicle for a competitive price.
Originally, I had been interested in the charcoal grey Tacoma but when I saw the silver one with the sports package, I knew that was the vehicle I wanted. Our salesman, Brandon Muncy, was very professional. He knew the products inside out and he was pleasant to deal with. He put me at ease immediately.
However, my real experience is with Sherri in the Finance department. On Saturday, I was so excited to find a vehicle and I made an impulse buy. When I left the house that morning, I did not take my driver's license, purse, checkbook or anything with me. I intended to go to Food City and then straight home. The sales manager made me a deal that I thought was very fair and I signed all the paperwork that day. I didn't take the vehicle with me though, because I didn't have my licenses or a check for the down payment. In my haste and excitement, I left my husband's name off the credit app/car title. He stayed outside looking at vehicles while I came inside and worked with Sherri to get everything signed so I just kind of forgot about him.
This morning, my husband and I were talking and I realized that his name was not on the paperwork anywhere. This is not something we do?everything we buy is in both of our names. I was very upset that I had left this off and wasn't sure how to correct the problem. When I took my check and drivers license to Sherri, I explained what happened and asked if it could be fixed. Since I work in finance and deal with contracts every day, I know how frustrated she must have felt! But she was so professional and I could not tell she was in the least bit upset. I know she probably wanted to wring my neck, but I could not tell that. She came across as it not being a problem and that customer service is her number one priority. She made us feel that we were much more important that her having to waste her time to re-do the paperwork. I was very impressed with how she handled the situation and I asked for your email address so I could let you know what a quality employee you have in her. I'm not sure I could have handled this situation so graciously! If you have any kind of recognition programs to reward employees then Sherri definitely deserves it.
In this small town, I'm sure you realize that word of mouth can either be your best advertising or your worst nightmare. Sherri took an embarrassing and difficult situation for me and turned it into a pleasant experience. I would certainly recommend Walters Toyota to anyone looking for a vehicle. I haven't been this impressed with anyone (or any buying experience) in a very long time!
